Happy Full Moon! (well officially on 8/22/2021 at 5:02 a.m. PDT, according to NASA.)
Some people don’t pay much attention to the moon. Others live their lives by its phases. I'm in between, but definitely lean more towards loving the moon.
Many spiritual traditions throughout history have given special importance to the moon, believing its various cycles affect our moods and physical well-being. Not a major surprise given the fact we are 60% water and we know the moon has an affect on water.
Rituals for harnessing the moon’s energy have existed for centuries. One of these rituals was collecting moon water. It was believed this water was charged with lunar energy, and could be used to cleanse negative emotions or aid in spiritual transformation.
You can create your own moon water at home with items you likely have in the kitchen. I've listed the 5 easy steps below:
First, find a glass bottle or jar (I prefer one with a lid) and give it a good cleansing. I invite you to really love this process and give it your full intention as this will be the container that holds your moon water.
Set your intentions. Write them down.
Fill your jar/bottle with water, preferably spring or distilled, while saying (and feeling) your intentions.
Set the jar/bottle out overnight during the full moon. If you can't leave it outside on the ground, you can set in in your window.
Collect your jar (I like to collect my jar Before sunrise, but you can choose to leave it out for a full 24 hours) and use it as you see fit. Sip on it, add it to a spritz bottle for a quick refresher, water your plants, or use in a ritual... Do what you feel called to do in order to support your intentions.
crystal therapist and spiritual wellness coach Emma Halley says water can hold energy, “Water is a supremely programmable substance, which means it takes on the energetic properties of things around it quite easily... Since we are 60 percent water, [moon water] can help us integrate, connect with, and manifest the intentions we have via the water.”
While research on the benefits of moon water is lacking, there are plenty of studies on how the moon affects our physical and emotional well being. A 2014 study concluded that the full moon was associated with lower sleep efficiency, or percentage of time spent asleep while in bed.
The moon phase changes throughout the lunar cycle and These changes can make us feel heightened emotions when the moon is full. We can feel lower lows and higher highs just like how high tides are higher, and low tides are lower, during a spring tide on a full moon. "The closer we get to a full moon, the more powerful the effect on heightening our emotions, for better or worse," explains spiritual wellness expert Jaya Jaya Myra.
This process of making moon water can really be as simple or as complex as you wish, the only thing that matters is that you trust the process, and use it to support yourself!
